Kewanee Police Make Illegal Weapons and Drug Arrest

The Kewanee Police Department on Friday announced an arrest in an ongoing investigation of an illegal weapons sale. Working alongside the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Black Hawk Area Task Force, on October 3rd, Kewanee Police arrested Michael E. Workheiser of Kewanee. According to the Kewanee Police Department, officers made arrangements with Michael E. Workheiser to purchase several weapons. The deal was conducted in Bishop Hill and immediately after Workheiser had sold five illegal weapons to an undercover officer, he was taken into custody. At the time of the arrest Workheiser was also carrying a small amount of Methamphetamine. Workheiser was taken to the Henry County Jail immediately following his arrest and has been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number (Class 3 Felony), and Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 Felony). Workheiser faces a potential 3 to 7 years in prison on these charges.

Workheiser’s request for pre-trial release was denied.  He will remain in custody until trial.  A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled on October 10, 2023, at 1 PM.
