Join park naturalists for the Starved Rock Saplings Storytime-Squirrely program at the Eagles Roost Cabin located behind the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center on Saturday, November 11, at 9:30 AM. This month’s theme is all about those squirrely squirrels! A story book will be read by Conservation Education Representative Amy Gensler followed by educational fun, craft time, and a short hike to look for squirrels at Starved Rock State Park. State anthropologist Brooke Morgan, with the Illinois State Museum, will present a 1-hour presentation on December 3, 2023, at 1 PM, summarizing the current archaeological knowledge of the earliest Indigenous inhabitants of the Illinois River Valley during the Late Pleistocene, commonly referred to as the Paleo-Indian Period. Learn how Clovis, Folsom, and other hunter-gatherers utilized the landscape during the last Ice Age.
Conservation Education Representative Lindy Groark will present a fun and entertaining program for children ages 3 to 10 on nature in winter on December 9, 2023, at 9:30 AM! A short story will be read followed by entertaining education, craft time and a short walk looking for signs of animals in the winter at Starved Rock State Park. The program is free and parents are asked to chaperone their children during the 45-minute to 1-hour program.
