The Associate Degree in Nursing program at Illinois Valley Community College has been granted continued accreditation status by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The announcement follows a site visit to campus in February, from which recommendations were issued by ACEN and complied with by the college. The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2031.
Interim Dean of Health Professions Heather Seghi greeted the announcement with “joy and pride. The accreditation, which we have held since 1970, is a testament to our commitment to excellence in nursing education.” She particularly praised faculty for being the driving force behind the program’s evolution and success.
“They provided valuable insights that led to significant curricular improvements – improvements that have allowed us to continue our long-standing tradition of being an accredited nursing program,” Seghi said of the site visit. “Accreditation recognizes our dedication to staying at the forefront of innovative teaching methods, evolving healthcare practices and the changing needs of our students.”
More than 100 students are enrolled in IVCC’s program. There are more than 40 associate degree registered nurse programs in community colleges in Illinois.
Meanwhile, IVCC’s dental hygiene program is expected to receive full accreditation early next year. The new program has already received initial accreditation, a status accorded to developing programs.
