The 2023-2024 updated Covid-19 shots for children, ages 6 months to 18 years, are now available at the Henry and Stark County Health Departments and the Kewanee and Colona First Choice Healthcare clinics by appointment. To make an appointment for you child, call the Kewanee location at 309-852-5272 or the Colona location at 309-792-4011. Children with insurance may get the Pfizer updated vaccine. Bring your insurance card to your appointment. Children without insurance coverage may get the Pfizer or Moderna updated vaccine through the “Vaccines for Children” or “Bridge Access Program”.
The Health Department notes that both the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and CDC recommend vaccination with the updated COVID-19 vaccine for all persons aged ≥6 months. Remember persons with weakened immune systems are at greatest risk for hospitalization and death. In addition, healthy children can still experience severe disease.
