MACOMB, IL – A Macomb man was arrested Tuesday evening after falsely activating a fire alarm in a high-rise building.

According to a release issued by Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer, officers were dispatched to Eisenhower Tower at 322 W. Piper Street in Macomb late Tuesday evening for complaints of a man banging on walls and activating the fire alarm in the building.

The man, Rolando Carter, was identified and connected to a domestic complaint in which his partner was arrested minutes before the fire alarm activation.

As the residents of Eisenhower Towers were vacating the property, some with limited mobility, officers gathered evidence, reviewed video, and ultimately arrested Carter for the false fire alarm. Carter allegedly made statements about burning the building down. Officers also located a significant amount of a substance believed to be cocaine in Carter’s pockets.

Carter was brought to the McDonough County jail for booking and was to be released on his citations, however Carter would not cooperate with booking procedures and was placed in a holding cell.

All parties are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
