    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Illinois State Police Troop 1 Announces Monthly Activity for January

Illinois State Police Troop 1 Captain Joseph Blanchette has announced enforcement figures and activity for January.

Illinois State Police Troop 1 Troopers issued 726 citations, 997 written warnings, and made 26 criminal arrests during the month of January.  Troopers issued 241 citations for speeding, 18 citations for distracted driving violations and 17 citations for occupant restraint violations.

Troopers investigated 138 traffic crashes, assisted 612 motorists, and conducted 316 commercial motor vehicle inspections, 33 of which were placed out-of-service for safety reasons. There were 22 arrests for driving under the influence.

Troop 1, which encompasses Boone, Carroll, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties, investigated 1 fatal traffic crash in January.
