MACOMB, IL – Macomb firefighters were dispatched early Tuesday evening to a trash can fire that resulted in damage to two homes on S. Dudley Street.
According to a release issued by Macomb Fire Chief Dan Meyer, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched at 6:11 p.m. on Tuesday night for a trash can fire at 329 S. Dudley St.
While en route the responding crew was notified that the fire was spreading to the siding and upon arrival confirmed that the fire, which was at the back of the house, had begun to involve the electric meter which had begun to arc.
A callback for off-duty personnel was initiated with a request for a change of quarters from Colchester Fire, who arrived and began an interior attack on the fire which had since spread to the kitchen and second floor of the home.
The fire was deemed under control at 06:53 PM, and crews continued with ventilation and overhaul.
Minor damage was also reported on the neighbor’s house at 333 S. Dudley. The home was occupied at the time of the fire and the residents evacuated safely.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
The structure sustained fire, smoke, and water damage throughout and has an estimated loss of $52,000.
The fire is believed to be unintentional due to discarded smoking materials and remains under investigation by the Macomb Fire Department.
