Former Dixon mayor Li Arellano decisively won a three-way race for the Republican nomination for State Senate in the 37th District to succeed Senator Win Stoller who is retiring.

“I am very grateful I will be able to bring my small business and government reform background to Springfield to begin to help turn Illinois around like I did as mayor in Dixon,” said Arellano. “I want to thank my hundreds of volunteers who helped me knock on almost 10,000 doors as we took my campaign directly to voters.”

Arellano concluded, “I also want to thank all public officials who put their reputations on the line by expressing their faith in me with public endorsements”.

As of now there is no Democrat candidate in the race. If elected in November, Arellano will be Illinois’ first Republican Senator of Hispanic heritage.

Arellano was a highly successful two-term mayor of Dixon who led a complete transformation of city finances after the nation’s largest municipal embezzlement before he ran for mayor. He and his wife, Jamie, are raising four young children from ages 13 to 5.
