Renowned American artist Alfred Conteh is set to make a significant mark in Peoria, Illinois, with the unveiling of his largest commissioned portrait and the premiere of his first documentary. Both events are part of the “Access for All: Alfred Conteh Returns” at the Peoria Riverfront Museum on June 9. Conteh’s portrait, emphasizing themes of family and fatherhood, features a local family and stretches an impressive 10 feet by 7 feet. The documentary, directed by Dr. Arshley Emile, delves into Conteh’s creative process and inspirations. This day-long event, which includes a panel discussion, aims to highlight the importance of representation and narrative in art, particularly concerning Black fatherhood and community identity.
