On Monday, May 20th, at 1:14 p.m. Rock Falls Fire Department, Sterling Fire Department, and CGH EMS were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 29038 Grennan Rd. Rock Falls at the Haunted Haven barn.

The first arriving crews reported a large barn with heavy fire on the second floor. A MABAS Box 31, to the box alarm level, was requested and was later upgraded to a second alarm. This brought in mutual aid from Dixon Rural, Dixon City, Amboy, Tampico, Harmon, Morrison, Prophetstown, Fulton, Milledgeville, and Polo fire departments, and an additional ambulance from Advanced Ambulance out of Dixon. Crews immediately began extinguishing the fire and established a water shuttle for rural water supply operations.

The building collapsed at 1:30 p.m. An excavator was requested to the scene to remove rubble and aid in extinguishing the fire that was covered by the collapse. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate. There were no injuries. The last crew cleared the scene at 6:10 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
