Henry and Stark County Health Department Making One Last Push for Osteoporosis Awareness Month

SHARE NOW

In recognition of National Osteoporosis Prevention Month this May, the Henry and Stark County Health Departments and First Choice Healthcare are raising awareness about the silent bone disease, osteoporosis. With about two million bone fractures annually in the U.S. linked to this condition, local clinics in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon are encouraging the community to take proactive measures. They suggest regular intake of calcium and vitamin D, routine weight-bearing exercises, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol, and discussing osteoporosis risk with health providers. Osteoporosis affects nearly 60% of adults over 50 and is especially prevalent among women.
