Murder Trial for Colona Man Charged with The Death of a Child Delayed to September

SHARE NOW

The murder trial against a Colona man for the death of his girlfriend’s 14-month-old daughter has been delayed again. Rahsaan Strawder has been in custody since January 2022, and he waived his right to a jury trial in October and opted for a Bench Trial with Judge Daulton. Staffing shortages in the State’s Attorney’s and Public Defender’s offices have caused prior delays in this case. A Final Pre-Trial is scheduled for August 16, 2024, at 1 PM.  The Bench Trial is now scheduled for September 30th through October 4th.

Rahsaan Strawder is charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder (Class M Felony), 2 counts of Aggravated Battery to a Child Under 13 (Class X Felony), and Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony).  Mr. Strawder is alleged to have battered a 14-month-old female child, causing her death on January 27, 2022.
