There is a blood drive in Annawan on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in memory of baby Zaion Huber. Baby Zaion Huber was born at 30 weeks but passed away not long after his birth due to Kell antibodies in his mother’s system. Kell antibodies is a condition where the antibodies in a pregnant woman’s blood pass through the placenta and impact the baby’s red blood cells, causing severe anemia. Zaion received five intrauterine blood transfusions during pregnancy. His family is hosting a blood drive and inviting the community to donate blood and save lives. The blood drive will be at the Annawan Community Center, located at 314 N State Street, on June 26th, from 1 PM to 6 PM. For an appointment, call the Red Cross at 1800 RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit https://www.redcross.org. You can save up to 15 minutes when you donate blood by using RapidPASS. Visit RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass for more information.
