Construction on the Lyle/Elm Streets project began at 6:30 AM today, June 10, 2024. The work is expected to take ten weeks, and residents in the affected areas should have trash and recycling out before 6 AM because trash and recycling will be collected early, to avoid interference with construction crews. The areas affected by this project are S Elm Street from E Oak to Lyle Street and Lyle Street from S Elm to N Main Streets. The homes directly affected will receive a letter from the city. The work by Advanced Asphalt will include repaving, curb and gutter replacement, new sidewalks, and storm sewer repairs. The City of Kewanee said there will be dust and noise from the construction work, and they apologize for any inconvenience.
Residents in the affected areas may have limited access to their driveways during work hours, which are 6:30 AM to 4 PM. The construction crew will attempt to minimize disruptions to residents, but there may be times when residents have limited access.
Detours will be in place during construction and drivers should be prepared for detours during this time. Residents are advised to park on nearby streets during construction hours if their driveway access is restricted. Emergency vehicles will have access to homes and roads at all times during construction.
