In Galesburg, a dispute between family members escalated into violence early Tuesday morning. Police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Indiana Avenue, where 31-year-old Brett Swise was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The altercation involved his father, 58-year-old Brian Swise, who was arrested and charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class X Felony), Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class 2 Felony), and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Class 3 Felony). Brian Swise retrieved the gun during an argument with his son and shot Brett three times. Officers provided life-saving measures until medical personnel responded to the scene. Brian Swise was transported to St. Mary’s ER and then transported to St. Francis, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. The State filed a petition to deny pretrial release,, and the detention hearing is scheduled for July 18, 2024, at 1:30 PM.
