Deputy Chief Michael Minx joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the second National Night Out for the Kewanee Police Department. Deputy Chief Mike Minx said the event has grown from its first year. A new addition this year is pony rides from TriCo Equestrian Center for $10 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. The pony rides will be near the entrance of Northeast Park, and they ask that kids be dry to ride the ponies.  Another new addition this year is a car cruise-in, all you need to do is bring your car, no registration required. There will be vehicles from first responder agencies on display, including Kewanee Police and Fire vehicles, an Illinois Department of Transportation snow plow, and a tow truck from Hodge’s. The concession stand will be closed for the season but the Kewanee Police Department will be giving out free hot dogs and chips from the concession stand during the event. There will be free swimming at the Oasis Swimming Pool from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. K9 Officer Josh Carpenter and K9 Maverick will be showing off their skills like last year. Officer Tim Bryner will be giving a wood carving demonstration and selling the wood carvings from the event to fund lights and gear for the Kewanee Police Department bicycle patrol units. They are giving away another Sony Playstation this year! If you want a chance to win the Sony PlayStation 5, purchase tickets here.  This is a cashless giveaway only. Azteca and D’s Freeze food trucks will be selling tasty treats and great food during the event. BreAnne Bryner and Sergeant Andrew Kingdon will be providing information on car seat safety and how to make an appointment for a car seat safety check, which takes about 30 minutes. Numerous area agencies will have tables set up and provide information, from the Braveheart Children’s Advocacy Center to the Kewanee Commission on Human Relations. Abilities Plus will have bubbles for the kids and adults alike. View an Ariel map here

Seth and Calab from Regional Media will provide tunes to keep the mood lively and fun. Thanks to Great Dane and Peoples National Bank, the Movie ‘Trolls Band Together’ will play on a big screen in the east outfield for Pool North and Pool South baseball fields. The movie begins at 8 PM to allow people time to change from swimming gear to dry clothing. Don’t forget to grab a chair or towel to sit on for the movie and your favorite snacks.
