A few days ago, a Kewanee resident reached out on social media, asking for help saving a kitten from a storm drain on Tenney Street. She reached out to me around 10 PM, asking who to contact to help save a kitten meowing from a storm drain. I reached out to the Kewanee Police Department, Kewanee Fire Department, City Manager Gary Bradley, and Public Works Director Kevin Newton. City employees and residents tried to lure the kitten to the drain on the street, but the kitten was scared. Thanks to the resident who placed a live trap in the storm drain, the kitten couldn’t resist the food in the live trap and was rescued. A huge thank you and excellent work to everyone who helped rescue the kitten. The kitten has found a new home with a Kewanee resident who wants to remain anonymous. The kitten looked good and was meowing when it was rescued. Thank you, City of Kewanee employees, for taking the time to help rescue a kitten. The live trap is at the Kewanee Police Department for the owner to pick up. Story update here.
