The Spoon River College Office of Community Outreach offers a variety of classes, seminars, workshops, and events that enhance personal and professional development as well as promotes lifelong learning opportunities. Classes for adults, business professionals, and youth are available. Classes and seminars are offered both day and evening in short intervals. Fall classes are being held in Canton, Havana, Macomb, Rushville, and Online.
Popular Youth programs include Safe@Home, Babysitting 101, and the Healthcare Hero Bus trip. Safe@Home prepares students for their first step toward independence and being home alone. Babysitting 101 focuses on how to become a better babysitter. In the Healthcare Hero program students will go on a fieldtrip to the Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center in Peoria and learn about being healthcare professionals.
Computers & Technology offerings include Basic Skills and Desktop Applications. Thanks to grant funding SRC Outreach is offering FREE Computer Basics classes at all SRC locations. Microsoft Excel and Word classes are being offered also. A NEW class called Introduction to Canva is on the schedule as well.
Personal Development classes include Creative Arts, Financing & Investing, Food & Beverage, Health & Wellness, Music/Theater, and Special Interest. A few popular classes coming up include Basic and Advanced Woodworking, Hay Bale Decorating with Christine, Cooking Classes for youth and adults, and a class that explores all the Major League Baseball Parks.
Professional Development opportunities include Business Skills, Career Training, and Continuing Education. These programs can assist you in your current job or train you for a new career. Some of those programs include a NEW Fiber Optics Technician program, Soft Skill Leadership classes, Cannabis Horticulture, and Food Service Certification classes.
