This summer, OSF HealthCare Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee, hosted Camp Med, a program designed to spark interest in healthcare careers among junior high students. Participants engaged in hands-on activities and learned about various roles in the sector, from clinical to administrative. The initiative aims to nurture local talent and address the increasing demand for healthcare professionals in rural areas.
“Camp Med was designed to introduce young students to the rewarding and diverse world of health care,” said Lori Christiansen, vice president of Support Services at OSF Saint Luke. “Our goal is to inspire the next generation of health care professionals and encourage them to work locally.”
The organizers of Camp Med are already looking at next year’s camp with plans to expand and enhance the program. The camp’s success this year has laid the foundation for future initiatives to nurture young talent and address the growing needs for healthcare professions in rural areas. RegionalMediaNews interviewed the kids in Camp Med, and they all enjoyed their time in the camp.
