SHARE NOW

The Western Illinois Museum, in collaboration with the City of Macomb, is set to honor the pioneering achievements of William H. Thorpe, the city’s first Black police officer, in a remarkable Community Conversation. Scheduled for September 12th at the museum from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, this event promises a reflective look at the challenges Thorpe overcame during his tenure.

Facilitated by Mayor Mike Inman, the gathering will feature dialogues with Thorpe’s family, friends, and colleagues, enriching the narrative with personal anecdotes and insights. Additionally, this occasion will introduce the upcoming Story Walk project at William H. Thorpe Memorial Park, providing attendees an exclusive glimpse into the creative tribute.

With support from Illinois Humanities, the session is open to all, offering refreshments and an invigorating discussion. For more information, reach out to the Western Illinois Museum.
