Two Macomb Police Officers were shot and wounded while attempting to serve a warrant in the 300 block of North Normal Street on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. The officers are in critical but stable condition and being treated in a hospital. Law enforcement remains on the scene today, September 5th. The map below shows the streets that remain closed with law enforcement presence. The Macomb Police will hold a morning briefing at 10 AM on Thursday, September 5th. Police ask people to stay away from the area.
Western Illinois University campuses in Macomb and the Quad Cities are closed September 5th due to the continued police presence near the Macomb campus.
Around 6:44 PM, officers from the Macomb Police Department attempted to execute a search warrant at an address in the 300 block of North Normal Street. Officers knocked several times and identified their presence. After getting no response, officers made entry into the residence and were immediately fired upon by someone in the residence. Two officers were struck and injured. They were rescued from the scene and taken to the hospital. “The officers are doing well considering,” said Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer. The officers have been transported to a secondary emergency service and are with family.
