The suspect related to the shooting of two Macomb Police officers has been taken into custody without incident. The scene remains secured while law enforcement processes the residence. More information will be released at the 4 PM briefing at city hall. Residents are advised to avoid the area.
Macomb Police Chief, Jeff Hamer, said the investigation has been turned over to the Illinois State Police (ISP) and future briefings will be coordinated with ISP..
Around 6:44 PM, officers from the Macomb Police Department attempted to execute a search warrant at an address in the 300 block of North Normal Street. Officers knocked several times and identified their presence. After getting no response, officers made entry into the residence and were immediately fired upon by someone in the residence. Two officers were struck and injured. They were rescued from the scene and taken to the hospital. “The officers are doing well considering,” said Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer. The officers have been transported to a secondary emergency service and are with family.
