Senator Neil Anderson Survey Regarding Crop Damage Concerns from Farmers in the 47th District

Senator Neil Anderson has developed a survey to address concerns from farmers in the 47th District regarding crop damage caused by wildlife, as well as develop potential solutions to the problem.

“During my travels across the district this summer, I’ve heard many concerns from our farming and agricultural communities about deer and raccoons destroying crops,” said Senator Anderson. “This damage is costing farmers thousands of dollars, forcing them to either replant or take a loss on the damaged crops.”

Farmers told Senator Anderson that the problem may be linked to an overpopulation of these wildlife animals. They also cite that hunters often focus on pursuing large trophy bucks rather than managing the entire deer population.

If you are experiencing animal nuisance issues, you can apply for permits through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR). IDNR offers applications for a Nuisance Animal Removal Permit (NARP) and Deer Removal Permit (DRP). Certain specifications and criteria must be met for a permit to be issued.

“My goal with this survey is to gather feedback from constituents on how to best address this issue,” Senator Anderson continued. “Whether it involves working with the DNR, adjusting permit specifications, or even crafting new legislation, this survey is an important step in understanding and resolving the concerns of the people we serve.”

The survey is available on Senator Anderson’s website and his Facebook page.
