Knox County and the City of Galesburg use the CodeRED emergency notification system to deliver phone calls, text messages, or emails to keep the public informed during severe weather outbreaks. The CodeRED Mobile Alert app delivers the alerts directly to your cell phone, providing residents, businesses, and visitors with important alerts specific to the user’s exact location. The app is free to all Knox County residents who have signed up. CodeRED is used by other communities throughout the United States and Canada. The CodeRED app delivers emergency and general alerts only to those people impacted in the specific area and is a critical method to notify residents who may be a work or home when an alert is issued. The app is available in the App Store and Google Play at no charge.
“The CodeRED Mobile Alert app gives us the power to deliver truly specific information to only those who need it. We know people like to decide what type of information they want to receive, and the app gives them the power to do that,” said Galesburg Fire Chief and Knox County Emergency Manager Randy Hovind. “We will use the app to deliver time-sensitive events that may impact the safety of our community.”
