The Mad About Plaid event will take place on Friday, October 4th. downtown Rock Falls and at the RB&W District Park (201 E. 2nd Street). Plaidurday falls on October 4th this year and what better time to celebrate this global celebration of plaid as we unite to create a better world, one stitch at a time, as well as to kickoff our Lumberjack Show and Beard Contest being held the following day at Selmi’s Family Farm! Our lumberjacks from the lumberjack show at Selmi’s Family Farm will be joining in on the fun as well!
So, get your Plaid on and come downtown Rock Falls to shop and dine. Many businesses will be offering specials for anyone who comes
into their business wearing plaid. We then invite everyone wearing their plaid to come to the RB&W District Park for a group picture at 7pm!
Rock Falls Tourism and Selmi’s Family Farm are excited to bring back the Lumberjack Show & Beard Contest for a 4th year! The event will be held at Selmi’s Family Farm (1206 Dixon Ave, Rock Falls) on Saturday, October 5th. Lumberjack shows will be at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm and last 30 minutes each. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy one or all three shows!
There will be an interactive lumberjack kid’s camp from 1:30-2 pm. Our annual beard contest will be at 2 pm. Our judges will be local barbers – Ben Phillips from Ben’s Phresh Kutz, Jose Garcia from The Barber’s Chair, and Meho from The Loop Barber Shop. There are 5 categories you can choose to enter – longest, fullest, best groomed, most unusual and crowd favorite.
Zoli’s Woodcarving from Monroe, WI will be having live woodcarving demonstrations throughout the day at Selmi’s Family Farm. Zoli is a master woodcarver and will be showcasing his incredible talent through live chainsaw sculpting.
Admission is just $8.00 for two years and older which includes the Lumberjack Shows, interactive lumberjack kid’s camp, beard contest, Zoli’s Woodcarving demonstrations, and all the fun activities at Selmi’s Family Farm. Hot apple cider donuts, apple cider slushies, and other food will be available for purchase throughout the day. Plan to spend the day!
