The Rock Falls Police Department is set to trial a new crime-fighting tool—license plate reader cameras. During a recent City Council meeting, Flock Safety proposed the installation of these cameras around Rock Falls. Police Chief David Pilgrim highlighted the system’s benefits, noting it would efficiently track both incoming and outgoing vehicle traffic, significantly aiding in criminal investigations.

Chief Pilgrim assured residents that privacy concerns are unwarranted, as the system targets only vehicles linked to criminal activity, such as those involved in theft or missing persons cases. The city plans a 90-day trial involving 12 cameras, with potential costs estimated at $3,000 per camera annually should the program proceed post-trial.
