On November 19, 2024, from 4:30 to 6 PM, the Moline campus will welcome students and educators interested in learning more about this vital profession. Held in Riverfront Hall rooms 103/104, the School Counseling Open House will feature a complimentary taco bar, a raffle, and valuable networking opportunities. Attendees will meet esteemed guests, including Amy Zero and Vince Walsh-Rock, and explore specialized sessions on developing school counseling programs and understanding application processes. This engaging event promises a deep dive into the rewarding world of school counseling.

“The demand for school counselors in Iowa and Illinois is soaring. WIU’s school counseling program emphasizes rigorous academic preparation, hands-on clinical experiences, and immersive engagement with K-12 students. Through direct collaboration with school districts, students graduate with strong
clinical counseling skills, fully prepared to meet the needs of diverse school populations,” WIU Counselor Education Associate Professor Matthew Beck said.

Interested students can learn more about school counseling at WIU and engage in dialogue with prospective and current students, alumni, school counselors, WIU school counseling faculty, and school district administrators.

Special guests with remarks will include Amy Zero, Rock Island Academy School Counselor and ISCA K-8 Counselor of the Year; Vince Walsh-Rock, ISCA Executive Director; and Tammy Muerhoff, the regional superintendent of schools in Rock Island County.
