The Whiteside County Sheriff’s office has received multiple calls regarding a telephone scam where the callers are impersonating themselves as being officials with our office. The caller informs the potential victim that there is a warrant for their arrest.
The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER contact anyone with a warrant and ask them to “pay money” to get out of the warrant by sending funds either by credit card, bitcoin, gift cards, wire transfers or cash through the mail (just to name a few of the scammers preferred method of payment).
Remember:
• Never give financial or personal information to anyone who calls, texts, or emails and says they’re with the any local, state or federal agency.
• If you receive a suspicious call, hang up. If you absolutely need to verify for your own peace of mind you can call the agency the phone fraudster is impersonating directly at a number you know is correct.
Please share this information with your family and friends.
