The City of Sterling announced today, Friday January 31st, at approximately 1pm the Sterling Fire Department, CGH EMS, Rock Falls Fire Department and Sterling Police Department responded to a man under a railcar.
The incident occurred on the Sterling Steel Property, 101 Avenue K in Sterling, involving a male subject reported down and under a railcar. Upon arrival, witnesses stated the male was still pinned.
At that time, Command called for assistance from Dixon City and Dixon Rural Fire Departments for Technical Rescue Team members and equipment. Milledgeville Fire Protection District was asked to stand by at the Sterling Fire station for call coverage.
Once crews arrived at the patient, they found he was not actually pinned, but did have a severe lower leg injury. The railcar did appear to have rolled over his lower leg. The patient was packaged and loaded for transport to CGH.
The incident is under investigation by their safety personnel and the Sterling Police Department. The incident was complete for the responders at approximately 130pm.
