The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, has announced the filing of charges following an arson investigation that occurred in October 2024. The incident, which took place in the Galt area, resulted in two individuals being hospitalized after a residential fire

Rodney Swan, 25, of Galt, IL, has been formally charged with aggravated arson, residential arson, and arson to personal property in connection with the fire. The fire, which caused significant property damage, led to injuries requiring medical attention, with the victims being transported to the hospital

Following the conclusion of the investigation, Swan was issued a Notice to Appear for the aforementioned charges. Despite this, Swan is currently being held in Whiteside County Jail on unrelated charges and will remain in custody until further proceedings

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire continues as authorities work to ensure all details of the case are thoroughly reviewed. The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office has emphasized its commitment to holding individuals accountable for actions that jeopardize the safety and wellbeing of the community

This was a complex investigation, and serious crimes like this sometimes take longer to fully investigate. We appreciate the patience of the community as we worked to gather all the necessary information. I’d like to personally thank everyone who was involved in this investigation for their hard work and dedication,” said Sheriff John F. Booker, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office

Swan is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
