Area farmers have collectively donated enough grain to provide a staggering 1.7 million meals over 15 years, thanks to the Bushels for Hunger program. This year alone, their contribution allowed for a $21,523 donation to the River Bend Food Bank. Area farmers have donated over $346,000 in grain to the River Bend Food Bank over the last 15 years. Chris Ford, CEO, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the committed Henry, Mercer, and Rock Island County Farm Bureaus and grain elevators. Their unwavering support has been crucial in assisting River Bend Food Bank’s mission, bringing relief and hope to many in need. This collaboration highlights the profound impact of community commitment and compassion. The scholarship recipients for the $50,000 in available Henry County Farm Bureau scholarships have been chosen and will be announced very soon. The Illinois Farm Bureau is calling all aspiring nurse practitioners who have a passion for serving rural communities. Their Rural Nurse Practitioner Scholarship application deadline is May 1, 2025. With 15 scholarships of $4,000 each on offer, this initiative supported healthcare professionals committed to making a difference in Illinois’ rural areas for over 33 years. This opportunity aims to bolster healthcare services where they are needed most, enhancing the well-being of rural residents. The Illinois Farm Bureau’s IVET Program is making strides in supporting future veterinary professionals by tackling financial challenges head-on. Since its inception in 2005, the program has granted over $610,000 to assist 29 students dedicated to food animal care within Illinois. Eligible veterinary students can access low-interest loans of up to $40,000, spread over three years, with a manageable repayment plan starting post-graduation. Adding to this support, a $1,500 stipend is provided during their fourth year for clinical rotation expenses. To qualify, applicants must study at an accredited U.S. veterinary college and commit to Illinois food animal practice for five years. Three students are chosen each year, and applications are due by May 15, 2025. The Henry County Farm Bureau will be at the Henry County Fair.
