At 10:39 AM, Wednesday, April 9th, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1400 S Johnson St with reports of smoke coming out of a mobile home. The first arriving units arrived on-scene at 10:43 AM and observed smoke and flames outside of the rear door of the mobile home.
The on-duty crew began extinguishing the fire from the outside before transitioning to an interior attack. The fire had extended from the laundry room into the kitchen area. The fire was extinguished, and the fire was declared “under control” at 11:04 AM. Five firefighters initially responded with 2 engines, while seven off-duty firefighters were called in to assist on scene and to cover any additional alarms.
Fire investigators processed the scene and cleared at 12:05 PM. No firefighters or civilians were injured. No smoke alarms were observed within the residence, and none were sounding at thetime of the fire department’s arrival. The structure sustained fire, smoke, and water damage throughout and has an estimated loss of $15,000.
The fire cause is deemed unintentional do to a potential electrical issue and remains under investigation by the Macomb Fire Department.
The Macomb Fire Department wants to again remind citizens that smoke detectors are essential safety devices that play a crucial role in protecting lives and property by providing early warning of smoke or fire. The fire department has partnered with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance and the “Be Alarmed!” program to provide smoke detectors free of charge to residents.
