Woman Rescued from Silo Roof Near Sterling City Hall

The City of Sterling announced today a citizen came to the dispatch center and reported a female had entered a silo next to City Hall and was now on its roof. The initial activation was approximately 1057am and brought an initial response from Sterling Police Department, Sterling Fire Department, CGH EMS.

Once responders arrived, they found the subject on the roof as indicated. The subject is known to the departments for mental health issues and care was taken to not make the situation worse for her or the responders.

Sterling Fire’s aerial ladder was placed, with a Police Officer and Firefighter moving it into a position to assist her down. The subject then crossed over to the other silo and entered the hatch of its roof. She made her way down the inside of the silo and was secured by Sterling Police Officers.

It was determined that the subject was suffering from a mental health crisis and she was subsequently transported by ambulance to CGH Medical Center for an evaluation.

The situation was completed in approximately 30 minutes. No injuries are reported for the responders or the subject involved.

The following assistance was in place: coverage from Milledgeville FPD for Sterling Fire, ensured a helicopter was in the area if needed, assistance from Rock Falls PD.
