Red Sox, teenagers take over Baseball America Top 100 list

Baseball America issued its updated list of the Top 100 prospects in the minor leagues on Wednesday, and it has a decidedly New England and teenage flair to it.

Outfielder Roman Anthony, a 20-year-old playing for the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, moved from No. 2 on the preseason list to No. 1. His teammates in the Red Sox organization — second baseman Kristian Campbell (No. 3) and shortstop Marcelo Mayer (No. 9) — also sit in the top 10 of the revised list.

Campbell already is playing in the majors, as are pitchers Roki Sasaki (Los Angeles Dodgers, No. 2) and Jackson Jobe (Detroit Tigers, No. 5). All three soon will fall off the prospect list when they meet playing time requirements in the majors.

At No. 4 is Bubba Chandler, a right-handed pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Moving into the top 10 are three teenage shortstops: 17-year-old Jesus Made (Milwaukee Brewers) at No. 6; 18-year-old Leodalis De Vries (San Diego Padres) at No. 7; and 19-year-old Sebastian Walcott (Texas Rangers) at No. 8. All three moved up at least 10 spots from their preseason ranking.

Rounding out the top 10 is the fifth shortstop on the list, Jordan Lawlar, who is hitting .354 with six home runs and 30 RBIs at Triple-A Reno (Arizona Diamondbacks).

Among the 10 players, Chandler, Lawlar and DeVries won April player of the month awards in their respective leagues.
