On Wednesday, May 7th, Whiteside County Deputies responded to a collision at the intersection of Polo Road and Holly Road in rural Sterling that sent one motorist to the hospital. Around 5pm, authorities say Aleena Hammelman, driving a GMC, failed to yield and collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Jose Trevino.
Trevino sustained non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Hammelman was issued a citation at the scene. Traffic was temporarily disrupted while emergency crews responded. Local officials remind all drivers to exercise caution, especially at rural intersections, as investigations into the precise circumstances of the crash continue.
