Springfield, IL – Illinois Senate Deputy Republican Leader Sue Rezin (R-Morris) issued the following statement after Democrat lawmakers passed a $55 billion budget that includes around $1 billion in new taxes:

“This budget breaks records in all the wrong ways. At a time when working families are struggling to afford everyday necessities, the Majority Party has passed the largest budget in Illinois history, built on tax hikes that make it even harder to make ends meet.

“We’re talking about more than $55 billion in government spending, a nearly 40 percent increase since Governor Pritzker took office. Illinois families are forced to make difficult choices every day, our state government continues to grow without accountability.

“Illinois families deserve a responsible budget that reflects their priorities, not another spending spree that forces them to pay more while receiving less.”
