Young anglers and their families cast their lines at the Second Annual Fishing Derby, held Saturday at Giant Goose Ranch. Organized by State Senator Neil Anderson and Representative Norine Hammond, the event attracted dozens of children for friendly competition and outdoor fun. Participants had the chance to win awards for the biggest fish, the most fish caught, and sportsmanship. The first 50 kids received complimentary fishing gear from Wildlife Forever, while Illinois Conservation Police presented tips on water and boat safety. Lawmakers praised the strong community turnout, highlighting the importance of shared outdoor experiences for families in the region.
