Repairs ongoing after power lost during Las Vegas windstorm

(The Center Square) — Nearly 1,000 Las Vegas residents were still without power late Thursday morning after a windstorm early Tuesday knocked electricity out for 30,000 homes.

Repairs are expected to be finished Friday after swaths of NV Energy customers across the city experienced shortages.

An estimated 50 trees had fallen into streets around the city after the windstorm — clocked at 60 mph outside of Harry Reid International Airport and 70 mph in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson.

NV Energy, the state’s largest energy provider, reported several electricity poles had been broken from the storm.

As part of the windstorm, large clouds of dust were swept up and interfered with the visibility across the Las Vegas Valley.

The Clark County Office of Emergency Management put together cooling sites, emergency shelter, additional public transportation, help finding pet shelters and help finding accommodations via the county website. The emergency shelter has been set up at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The NV Energy added that while repairs were ongoing, live updates could be found on its MyAccount website for customers.
