Illinois is updating its approach to pay equity. Governor JB Pritzker has signed a new law amending the state’s Equal Pay Act, officially removing outdated references to federal reporting requirements. Now, companies with 100 or more employees are required to submit wage data specifically to the Illinois Department of Labor, focusing on transparency in pay between different sexes and races. By eliminating links to federal forms, the state seeks to streamline enforcement and bolster efforts to close wage gaps. Lawmakers and advocates say this move brings clarity and renewed momentum to the fight for fair compensation in Illinois workplaces. Find more information here.
“These legislative changes promote consistency and simplify pay transparency reporting in Illinois,” said Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) Director Jane Flanagan. “While it may be challenging to keep up with shifts in federal law, Illinois maintains its steadfast commitment to promoting transparency in pay practices and ensuring that Illinoisans receive equal pay for substantially similar work, regardless of sex or race.”
