A Macomb man has been found guilty of murdering his cellmate in the McDonough County Jail.
Timothy Smith killed Darrell Hocker in their shared cell on November 8th, 2023. Smith argued he was not guilty due to insanity, but a jury determined that while Smith has mental health issues, he was able to understand the criminality of his actions during the killing. The trial took three days, and Smith declined to attend or participate.
Smith faces between 20 to 60 years in prison. His sentencing is set for Thursday, October 16th.
