Sterling’s downtown nightlife just got a boost as the City Council approved an ordinance allowing liquor-license holders to extend operating hours for special events. Local businesses can now apply for permits to stay open until 3 a.m.— with last call at 2 a.m.— up to four times a year. The measure passed unanimously after input from business owners Ryan and Ashley Nares, who highlighted the economic and social benefits.
While police and city officials expressed concerns about potential strains on public safety, business representatives assured the council about heightened security and crowd control. The new rules take effect immediately, aiming to balance late-night fun and community safety.
