SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Li Arellano Jr (R-Dixon) is calling out Democrat lawmakers for pushing a bill that stirs political conflict with the federal government instead of focusing on public safety.
“This legislation is not about making communities safer, it’s about our Governor and his allies picking political fights with the Federal Government and inciting unrest — it is all for theater,” Senator Arellano said.
“This legislation will allow lawsuits against officers simply for doing their jobs, create 1,000 foot “safe zones” around courthouses for those breaking immigration law, require colleges to warn illegal immigrants of enforcement actions, and force hospitals to prioritize immigration “rights” over public safety.
“Instead of protecting families and restoring order through coordinated public safety, this bill drives a deeper wedge between Illinois and federal law enforcement so Democrats can get their sound bites and clips,” Senator Arellano said. “It’s the wrong path for our state and sends a message that political posturing matters more than well-coordinated public safety.”
