    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Sterling Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire

The Sterling Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1812 E 4th St in Sterling Friday afternoon at approximately 15:48. Sterling Fire was assisted on the scene by the Rock Falls Fire Department, Dixon City Fire department, as well as Sterling Police, Whiteside County deputies, and CGH Ambulance Service.

An additional mutual aid company from Polo backed-up our station. Fire crews arrived on the scene to find a vehicle on fire in one of the service bays that had already spread to the structure. The lone occupant of the building was outside prior to our arrival.

Firefighters initiated fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire. No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. Fire damage to the structure was moderate. Building
