The City of Sterling said Monday that a strong natural gas smell in the area was linked to a leaking odorant tank at a construction site.
Construction crews are working at the old natural gas substation on McNeil Rd. The crews have a leaking tank of mercaptan on-site. Mercaptan is the odorant added to natural gas to detect leaks by smell. It has a strong scent but is not hazardous on its own.
