Metacognition, the process of thinking about one’s own thinking, is gaining attention in education and psychology circles. By actively reflecting on how we learn, plan, and solve problems, individuals can adjust their approaches for improved outcomes. This self-awareness allows people to monitor their understanding in real time and make changes if they’re struggling, promoting smarter—not harder—learning. Experts suggest that metacognitive strategies, such as regularly questioning what is understood and evaluating study methods, lead to greater academic success and more independent learning. As research grows, metacognition could become a key component in learning and personal development programs.
