Women’s Top 25 roundup: No. 10 Iowa outlasts No. 15 Maryland in OT

Aaliyah Chavez posted 15 points in overtime, including four three-pointers, as No. 16 Oklahoma upset No. 2 South Carolina 94-82 on Thursday in Norman, Okla.

Chavez totaled 26 points overall with four rebounds and eight assists for Oklahoma (15-4, 3-3 SEC), which trailed 43-36 at halftime. Payton Verhulst added 19 points and Raegan Beers posted 18 points and a team-leading 14 rebounds. The Sooners outrebounded the Gamecocks 54-39 and scored more than half their points in the paint (50).

In the final minute of the fourth quarter, Joyce Edwards hit two free throws to give the Gamecocks a two-point lead, but Beers scored on a tip-in with 18 seconds left. The Sooners’ Zya Vann then stole the ball from Edwards to send the game to overtime.

Tessa Johnson posted 19 points for South Carolina (19-2, 5-1), who lost their first conference game of the season. Raven Johnson had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists and Edwards added 12 points and five rebounds.

No. 1 UConn 83, Georgetown 42

The Huskies maintained their perfect record on the season with a dominant road victory against the Hoyas in Washington, D.C.

Sarah Strong led the way with 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists for UConn (20-0, 10-0 Big East). Azzi Fudd posted 19 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Serah Williams added 12 points and six rebounds.

Brianna Scott had a team-leading eight points for Georgetown (11-8, 4-6), who were held to eight points in the third quarter. The Hoyas have dropped two of their last four games.

No. 5 Vanderbilt 81, Auburn 53

Mikayla Blakes posted a team-high 20 points as a big second half propelled the unbeaten Commodores to a dominant victory against the Tigers in Nashville, Tenn.

Sacha Washington added 18 points and 12 rebounds for Vanderbilt (20-0, 6-0 SEC), who led by just four (33-29) at halftime. Aubrey Galvin added 15 points, five rebounds and a team-leading 10 assists.

Harissoum Coulibaly had 13 points and three rebounds, Kaitlyn Duhon added 11 points and A’riel Jackson added 10 points and four rebounds for Auburn (13-7, 2-4). The Tigers had won two straight, including a 58-54 upset against No. 23 Alabama.

No. 6 LSU 98, Texas A&M 54

MiLaysia Fulwiley came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points and Grace Knox added 19 points as the Tigers crushed the Aggies in College Station, Texas.

Kate Koval contributed 15 points, Amiya Joyner chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds, Jada Richard posted 11 points and Mikaylah Williams notched nine assists and eight boards for the Tigers (18-2, 4-2 SEC), who have won four straight.

For the Aggies (8-7, 1-5), who have dropped three straight and five of their last six, Fatmata Janneh led the way with 14 points and six rebounds, while Ny’Ceara Pryor posted 13 points and six assists.

No. 7 Michigan 94, Rutgers 60

Olivia Olson and Syla Swords each contributed a team-leading 16 points as the Wolverines dominated the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, N.J.

Mila Holloway and Te’Yala Delfosse each added 15 points, and Kendall Dudley posted 10 points and a team-leading eight rebounds for Michigan (16-3, 7-1 Big Ten), which led 43-24 at halftime. The Wolverines rebounded from a 72-69 loss to Vanderbilt their last time out, and have won five of their last six games.

Faith Blackstone posted 21 points for Rutgers (9-10, 1-7), who took an early 4-2 lead in the first quarter but played from behind for the duration of the game. The Scarlet Knights had previously ended a five-game losing streak with a 76-72 win against Penn State.

No. 10 Iowa 85, No. 15 Maryland 78

Chazadi Wright posted eight of her 12 points in overtime as the Hawkeyes pulled off an impressive victory against the Terrapins in College Park, Md.

Ava Heiden had a team-leading 20 points for Iowa (17-2, 8-0 Big Ten), which took a 33-27 lead into halftime but was forced into overtime as Maryland’s Oluchi Okananwa evened the scored at 73-all with a 3-pointer with nine seconds to go. Down 76-75 a minute into overtime, Iowa finished on a 10-2 run, with Wright and Heiden combining for all the Hawkeyes’ points.

Wright scored 18 points in all, and Hannah Stuelke posted 12 points and 11 rebounds. Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu posted 18 points and 12 rebounds, Kyndal Walker scored 15 and Okananwa added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Maryland (17-4, 5-4). The Terrapins have dropped three of their last four games against conference rivals.

No. 17 Tennessee 60, No. 11 Kentucky 58

Mia Pauldo scored a team-high 21 points as the Lady Vols held on to defeat the Wildcats in Knoxville, Tenn.

Jaida Civil contributed eight points, six rebounds and three assists for Tennessee (14-3, 6-0 SEC), which led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter. The Vols have won seven straight.

Amelia Hassett had 16 points and six rebounds for Kentucky (17-4, 4-3), which had a pair of one-point leads during the fourth quarter off Tonie Morgan’s 3-pointer and jumper. Jordan Obi added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Morgan added 13 points and Clara Strack went for nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

No. 12 Ohio State 81, Indiana 67

The Buckeyes completed a second-half rally for a victory against the Hoosiers in Columbus, Ohio.

Jaloni Cambridge posted 22 points and Kennedy Cambridge and Chance Grey each added 13 points for Ohio State (18-2, 7-1 Big Ten), who trailed 42-32 at the half. The Buckeyes have won seven straight games dating to Dec. 31.

Lenee Beaumont had a team-leading 20 points for Indiana (11-9, 0-8), who have dropped seven straight. Shay Czieski added 19 points and Zania Socka-Nguemen added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 13 Michigan State 74, USC 68

Kennedy Blair led the way with 21 points as the Spartans held on to defeat the Trojans in East Lansing, Mich.

Grace VanSlooten posted 16 points and nine assists and Rashunda Jones added another 16 points for Michigan State (18-2, 7-2 Big Ten), who had a 22-8 lead late in the first quarter. The Spartans lost at No. 11 Iowa 75-68 their last time out.

Kara Dunn posted 23 points and Jazzy Davidson added 21 for USC (11-8, 3-5), who took a brief 49-47 lead near the end of the third quarter. The Trojans have dropped five of their last six.

No. 18 Ole Miss 82, Missouri 61

Cotie McMahon posted a whopping 33 points along with 12 rebounds and five assists as the Rebels rallied past the Tigers in Columbia, Mo.

Sira Thienou added 17 points and 10 rebounds for Ole Miss (17-4, 4-2 SEC), who scored 33 points in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Latasha Lattimore added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Grace Slaughter posted 21 points and seven rebounds and Shannon Dowell added 15 points for Missouri (13-9, 1-6), whose only lead was 12-10 late in the first quarter. The Tigers were outscored 53-38 in the second half.
