Hammond introduces bill to permit drone use in game recovery(R-Macomb) is sponsoring legislation this spring dealing with the use of drones by hunters to locate wounded game.   Hammond said the legislation aims to regulate the use of drones by hunters as a better and more efficient way of locating game they have wounded.

In essence, this bill would allow the use of unmanned aircraft to track and locate wounded wild birds and mammals, including deer and wild turkeys, under strict conditions.

Drones could be used only to recover animals wounded by a properly licensed hunter during an open season, with prior permission from the landowner for launch and landing, and must be operated without harassing wildlife.

The drone system is currently being used in other states including Indiana where thermal drones are used to recover wild game.
