Driver Sent to Hospital After Single Vehicle Accident

At approximately 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, February 12th, the Lee County 911 Center received an automated crash detection alert from a cell phone plotting near the Green River on Pump Factory Road south of Arch Road. Deputies responded to the scene along with additional emergency responders.

Upon their arrival, deputies located a single vehicle accident involving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado that had crashed into the guardrail.

The first responding Deputy broke a window to access the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Once inside the passenger compartment, the driver’s injuries were assessed and two tourniquets were applied. Extrication of the driver had to be completed by personnel from the Amboy Fire Department, the Sublette Fire Department, and the Dixon Rural Fire Department that all responded to assist. Due to the severity of the injuries, OSF Life Flight from Peru was contacted and requested to the scene.

The driver, Cory Zimmerly, age 53 of rural Amboy was extricated from the truck and flown from the scene to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. The cause of the collision is under investigation, and no further information is currently available. An accident re-constructionist from the Sheriff’s Office was brought in to investigate the incident.
