Anglers eager to plan can now purchase Illinois fishing licenses for the 2026 season. Priced at $15 for residents, these permits are required for anyone sixteen and older hitting the state’s lakes, rivers, and streams. Proceeds from license sales help fund vital conservation efforts across Illinois. Licenses and up-to-date regulation guides can be obtained either online or from authorized vendors. Some residents may qualify for exemptions, including members of the military and people with disabilities. Prospective anglers are encouraged to review eligibility requirements and guidelines to ensure a smooth start to the new fishing season.
“Quality fishing opportunities depend on the support of anglers, and that starts with buying a fishing license,” said Mike McClelland, chief of fisheries for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. “When anglers buy a license, they help support sport fishing, hatcheries and habitat improvements for people across Illinois, now and in the future.”
