Kewanee woman charged with first-degree murder in Creve Coeur case

Illinois State Police and the Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office have announced an arrest in a Creve Coeur homicide investigation. Authorities say 27-year-old Caitlynn J. Girkin of Kewanee was taken into custody on July 7th on three counts of first-degree murder (Class M Felony).

The case began March 10th, when Creve Coeur Police asked ISP to investigate a death in the 500 block of Roosevelt Street. Officers found 29-year-old Adolfo Cazares of Creve Coeur suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died from his injuries.

Girkin is being held at the Tazewell County Jail in Pekin, pending a detention hearing. The investigation remains active.

A former Creve Coeur police officer has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this year. Creve Coeur Police say officers and rescue crews were called to the 500 block of Roosevelt Street at 2:13 AM on March 10th after a 911 call reporting a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say the call came from Caitlyn Girkin, who reported the injury to a male victim. Both individuals lived at the Roosevelt Street address. When officers arrived, they began lifesaving efforts, but the man died at the scene.

Chief Justin Egan said in a release that the Creve Coeur Police Department then requested the Illinois State Police to investigate the incident.
